Fantasy Châteaux Shopping in the Midi-Pyrénées

Updated: Dec 27, 2021

I've had a weakness for French architecture and historical restoration ever since my mother, daughter, and I spent an incredible week at Chateau de Gudanes in the summer of 2017. In fact, the impression left by that first visit was so indelible that we visited again in the summer of 2018 and were delighted to find it to be every bit as enthralling as our first time. There is something so tremendously special about that place and the people who inhabit it that I've often found myself wishing I could similarly dedicate myself to the restoration of my own château. However, I do not yet possess the tenacity, or perhaps insanity, required to pursue such a lifelong passion project. So I have instead resigned myself to living vicariously through the chatelaines of Château de Gudanes, Château de la Lande, Château de Bourneau, and Château de La Motte Husson in addition to some occasional online window shopping.

In this week's adventures of fantasy châteaux shopping I found this gorgeous 3600 sqft baby château (or manoir if you prefer) on approximately 7.5 acres about 31 miles north of Toulouse. It appears to have been partially renovated and has been listed for roughly $524,054 usd as of the time of this writing. Assuming someone hasn't already snatched this gem up, you can learn more about it here.

La Ville-Dieu-du-Temple is a commune that resides within the Tarn-et-Garonne department of the Occitanie region in southern France. Montauban is perhaps the closest town that offers plenty of opportunities for things to see and do and has been classified Ville d’art et d’histoire (City of art and history) since 2015. Nevertheless, the maison's proximity to Toulouse may actually be its best asset.

Regardless of this property's location, that staircase is what dreams are made of. I can already imagine it beautifully decorated with swags of greenery and flickering led candles in anticipation of an evening soiree with big overstuffed velvet sofas warmly inviting guests into the grand parlor. Swoon.
